Just gutted a bathroom that I knew had some rot on the subfloor from inspection underneath, it's way worse than anticipated. Subfloor is gone, bottom plate is gone, 1/4 to 1/2 of each stud is gone.... I'm a vehicle mechanic, no clue at the process neeed here. Guessing here, but seems like sister the couple joists that are bad (worst is about an inch off the 2x8's), dig out the subfloor rot and shimmy replacement back in? I don't think the wall is Really supported in that ~6' section, just kinda hanging there now so taking away isn't going to hurt anything. Then do the same remove and replace with the bottom plate and finally sister in some new studs and cut out the old rot? Have drywall in other rooms screwed to the original studs, and outside sheeting and siding on a 3rd wall so can't Really remove those studs without a headache I'm unwilling to embrace.
Anyone have experience with this shit? Must have tools to make it easier? (I've got a Fein oscillating tool along with the common circular and jig saws, but that's it for wood cutting).
